Swedish Massage

Massage therapy is well known today for encouraging relaxation and wellbeing. The existence of the use of massage is believed to date back 5000 years and is mentioned in some of the earliest records and in the writing of philosophers. Henrik Ling, a Swedish physiologist was responsible for bringing massage as we know it today to Europe, hence the term ‘Swedish massage’ which many may be familiar with.

Why choose massage?

Swedish massage is a fantastic massage therapy that can be used to relax or to invigorate the body. It is an adaptable treatment that can be used as a full body therapy or on specific areas. If you are new to having massage you may find it useful to begin with a back, neck and shoulder massage to see what pressure you are comfortable with before trying a full body treatment. This treatment will be tailored specifically to your needs.

What to expect from a treatment

You will need to fill out a health consultation prior to the start of your treatment. This is to check there are no contraindications to you receiving the massage. You will also be asked if you have any specific problem areas and what you would like to gain from your treatment i.e. whether you would like to feel relaxed or energised.

The treatment will  be performed whilst you are lying down on a treatment couch and depending on the treatment type the massage can last from approximately 30 minutes to an hour.

Once the treatment has finished it is recommended that you drink plenty of water and relax for the rest of the day. Massage can be a powerful therapy and it is common to want to sleep or rest after a treatment. Always listen to you body! It is also important to avoid alcohol, nicotine and caffeine after a treatment as your body rebalances.
