“Because we cannot scrub our inner body we need to learn a few skills to help cleanse our tissues, organs, and mind. This is the art of Ayurveda.”
Ayurveda is the traditional ancient Indian medicine system encompassing massage, nutrition, herbal remedies and lifestyle advice which is complemented by the practice of Yoga and meditation.
It is a truly holistic system that has been practised for thousands of years and is translated as ‘Science of Life.’ Ayurveda seeks to promote good health through the restoration of balance within the mind, body and spirit.
Strictly Holistic Ayurvedic Treatments
Ayurvedic massage is one of the ways in which ayurveda can help to revitalise the body. By performing a consultation to assess a client’s dosha or constitution and what aspects of the individual may be in excess (or out of balance) a therapist can tailor an ayurvedic massage specifically to what that client needs. The massage focuses on nourishing the chakras or marma points of the body to energise and release blockages, the aim of it being to bring back into balance whichever dosha is considered in excess.

Why choose Ayurvedic massage?
Many people find Ayurvedic massage a great rebalancing treatment that works equally well on all levels – physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally.
It can be an invigorating and nourishing massage with the focus on rebalancing the body’s energies rather than relieving muscular tension – although many people find this can happen naturally during the treatment. If you are looking for a cleansing treatment on all levels, this may be the therapy for you.
What to expect from a treatment
The start of the treatment will begin by completing an ayurvedic questionnaire to determine your ayurvedic ‘constitution’ which is made up by three doshas with one dosha usually more dominant. The doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha are all characterised by different qualities which are physical, mental, emotional and spiritual in nature. This consultation will help inform the type of treatment that you will receive and ensure that it is tailored specifically to your needs.
Dependent on your dominant dosha, specific massage techniques and oils will be used during the treatment. You will also need to fill out a health consultation form to assess your current state of health and if there are any conditions that the therapist needs to be made aware of.
After your treatment:
- Drink plenty of water – it is important to keep hydrated as the body rebalances.
- Relax – Ayurvedic treatments are a very cleansing experience and it is common to feel lightheaded and tired after a treatment so it is also important to relax as the body rebalances. Once these feelings have dissipated many people describe a feeling of invigoration as the energies of the body start to flow more freely due to the massage.
