Five reasons to try massage therapy

The use of massage is believed to date back as far as 5000 years. Many well known ancient therapies such as Shiatsu and Ayurveda demonstrate the use of massage in varying forms. Massage therapy

The intention with massage therapy is typically to relax the soft tissues and to increase the delivery of blood and oxygen to massaged areas, warm them and help the body to relax. (www.chnc.org.uk)

Massage can be found to help:

  • Reduce physical, mental and emotional stress
  • Bring relief from everyday aches
  • Address feelings of anxiety and tension
  • Increase feelings of relaxation
  • Can be used in support of other therapies to assist in the rehabilitation of muscular injuries

There are many reasons why I recommend massage therapy for clients (subject to consultation) but if your body – and mind – are in need of a break and a chance to recharge, it can be one of the most effective therapies available.

Many people enjoy the peace that having a massage gives them, often dozing off! This gives the body and mind valuable time to just ‘be’ and is a great sign that the treatment is aiding relaxation.  Massage therapy can also be adapted to suit a client who wants to feel energised so the therapist can alter the pressure of the massage to include firmer movements.

After a massage it is important to keep hydrated  and relax! I always recommend that clients go home if they can and put their feet up to fully enjoy their treatment. They don’t often need much persuading!
